We got a new designer joining the ranks of WoodMarvels.com, his name is Dirk and he made an amazing ultra-modern tray which I really like a lot! It fits together using the minimum number of pieces yet is so nice to look at… everything just flows as it should! You can find this ultra-modern tray under Collaborations / Dirk Henning at WoodMarvels.com. It’s available right now in a laser cutting EPS, CNC routing and traditional woodcrafts PDF formats in addition [...]

A long while back, we released our first helicopter here at WoodMarvels.com, designed by Jerry… it was (and still is) a very cool design which I really enjoyed working on. David Newman saw it and polled some kids regarding a project we are jointly working on (details later) and based off their feedback, decided to build his very own helicopter… an attack helicopter! This wooden attack helicopter is immediately available under Collaborations / David Newman at WoodMarvels.com in PDF, EPS, [...]

We now have a new designer joining our ranks here at WoodMarvels.com and his name is Alec. I saw his design and right away approached him asking if I could have it here and he gladly said yes! This is a very nice looking snail that allows you to quickly organize your letters and other important documents in a elegant and unique way. The model is now available at WoodMarvels.com under Collaborations / Alec Perkins in PDF blueprint, EPS format [...]

If you want to see the design process I went through with the building of the WoodMarvels.com Semi-trailer Truck I released a week or so ago, this video is for you! I’m still playing around with the concept of how to best present this, with the move to 720p, my screen shot resolutions weren’t made at high enough resolution so next time around, it should be much clearer. Also, I’ve stopped reversing the music on these videos… feels rather sinister [...]

David, who also happens to be a contributor who also made the earlier Jet just finished cutting our Transport Truck which looks wonderful. It’s also the first time I see any of my models with paint on them. It looks fantastic! He also made a few slight changes to the model such as replacing the smoke tracks with larger pieces for an easier and safer build for children among a few others. Semi-trailer Truck: How to Build (720HD) F35 Joint [...]

I’ve now completed the conversion of these files to be available in DXF format. Still a lot more to go but updating a lot of other information in the process is really refreshing WoodMarvels.com site wide. Crab: 3D Assembly Animation This was among my very first batch of products I made for WoodMarvels.com, as such, it was originally built using wooden dowels. Although the model has since been updated to be laser cut from one sheet (including replacement pegs instead [...]

Wow… it’s incredible what new software upgrades can bring to the animations I produce for each of our products, the latest being the Semi-trailer Truck! This product is the first in many respects at WoodMarvels.com. It’s the first animation produced in 720p (High Definition), it’s the first product to be released in a laser cut plywood kit, laser cutting EPS file, PDF blueprints and DXF for all you guys with a router. Not only that, but this is by far [...]

I just got another batch of files converted to DXF for all you guys with a CNC router. I got a pretty good flow going now so it’s happening pretty fast now. Some of these models like the Platform Crane and the Full Armor Gear series can not be released as DXFs and EPS again, sure they require dowels but no big deal… they are still very good models. Mayan Temple Bank: 3D Assembly Animation I really find the story [...]

I got well North of a hundred models to convert to DXF so the best way to get through this while working on new projects is spending a little time each day getting a random batch done. At the same time, I’m updating product information (where necessary) to have a more consistent feel through all the products at WoodMarvels.com. This is important because there is a lot of growth going-on both online and off. For now, I’m exporting them all [...]

A few weeks ago, Ponoko, the company that cuts our laser cut kids approached me to have one of my models at their Makers Fair event in the United States… of course, the first model that came to mind was the Zulu Main Battle Tank. Not only is it massive but really showcases everything that is possible using only 2D wood, complete with rotating and shooting parts! After a few discussions, they settled on the Amazing Train Zulu Main Battle [...]
