David Newman sent me off this picture of the Trotec booth down under at the 2011 Melbourne VIIE showcasing not only two impressive machines but models that were cut by them too! If you attend, be sure to say “Hi” to the Trotec Australia crew!

If you attended the Bay Area Maker Faire over the past few days and visited the Ponoko booth, you saw some WoodMarvels.com models there. You can see more pictures of the Ponoko booth at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ponoko Thanks Ponoko! A very special thanks goes to Ponoko for cutting, assembling and showing my models at their booth. I continue to learn many things from them while dealing with their staff with everything from 2D engraving to 3D printing for the sister site, 3DMarvels.com. [...]

I designed this for Trotec Australia’s trophy show and originally had planned on making the back identical to the front… until I realized later in the design process that the “1″ would have been reversed. I had to make a decision, either insert two or three extra “widths” worth of numbers to achieve my original intent or just updated the back so that the front is one way and the back another. As most trophies are placed against a wall [...]

TAICO Laser Technology, out of São Paulo, Brazil, wrote a small piece about the designs found at WoodMarvels.com http://taicolaser.blogspot.com/2011/01/um-site-muito-interessante-com.html and also stuck the Medieval Castle Walls B on their corporate home page! http://www.taicolaser.com.br Although they didn’t ask permission much less tell me about this (I found out through my stats) – they did attribute the images back to me so I’m happy that all their customers are finding out about WoodMarvels.com’s plans! If I had to decide between the awesome [...]

I left out some of the side panels to offer more fun for them. With a litlle granite-color paint it really looks great. I’m still looking for rough brick like vector mask to apply for etching after the paintjob to [...]

David Newman kept at refining his really cool Bobcat design and the result is the MK3 Bobcat. It features both a simpler building process and a stronger wooden toy overall. He also added a little guy inside the cockpit driving it and as always, all that’s required is some glue to keep everything together in tip-top shape! You can find it right now at WoodMarvels.com under Collaborations / David Newman. MK3 Bobcat: 3D Assembly Animation (720HD) The original Bobcat design [...]
