About two years ago, I got a bunch of things cut and shipped to my parents and nephew for Christmas as their presents. There have been sitting in my computer and finally got around to optimizing the pictures… the Pterodactyl looks the best to me I was abroad at the time (and still am) so I find this is the best way to send things to those I care about. So, as you can see, I’m not just the founder [...]

  • Transport Truck

David, who also happens to be a contributor who also made the earlier Jet just finished cutting our Transport Truck which looks wonderful. It’s also the first time I see any of my models with paint on them. It looks fantastic! He also made a few slight changes to the model such as replacing the smoke tracks with larger pieces for an easier and safer build for children among a few others. Semi-trailer Truck: How to Build (720HD) F35 Joint [...]

  • jontrain

A few weeks ago, Ponoko, the company that cuts our laser cut kids approached me to have one of my models at their Makers Fair event in the United States… of course, the first model that came to mind was the Zulu Main Battle Tank. Not only is it massive but really showcases everything that is possible using only 2D wood, complete with rotating and shooting parts! After a few discussions, they settled on the Amazing Train Zulu Main Battle [...]

  • marsrover-opp-anglefront

Stats are a wonderful thing… and today, they revealed the coolest thing so far in the history of WoodMarvels.com. The guy who actually tells the REAL Mars Rover what to do on Mars actually tweeted about the one for sale at WoodMarvels.com. Fantastic!!! What does Scott Maxwell actually do? He describes it best: At night, there’s a small red light in the sky. On that light lives four hundred pounds of thinking metal sent from Earth. I tell that metal [...]

  • balistesigeweapon-1

Stephane has send me another testimonial, this time, the WoodMarvels.com Baliste Siege Weapon and it looks amazing! —————- Hello Jon ! How are you ? I join to you a “new” version of the Baliste. Finish in two version, and work great !! I test alone (not with my children ! ) with a standard marble, wonderful ! The second version, I applied some wax color chestnut before cutting, just for make a “laser cutting” inverted ! I think it’s [...]

  • P1030866

About a week ago, I got a testimonial from Stephane who completed our free Mobile Crane and now he has sent me one for the Full Armor Gear Transporter! What’s even cooler is that he created a really attractive and neat pincer for the Mobile Crane which you can see in the pictures as well (more on that later). Here’s the testimonial! ————————— Hi Jon, The crane (another of the first) will be modified with a self made design of [...]

  • JohnnyCastle

I got a testimonial from Matthew who ordered both the WoodMarvels.com free Medieval Castle Walls and the EPS file for the Medieval Castle Walls B – using both he created a model that was made uniquely for his child. Below are the pictures and testimonial. This testimonial made me especially proud because a child had a very unique toy built by his father using designs I made… which meant a lot! ——————— (I blurred the kid’s faces in the pictures) [...]

  • Wooden Mobile Crane Picture - turned

If you look a little on the WoodMarvels.com, you will find that there are a few PDF blueprints that are free – not just my first version of my Medieval Castle Walls. I got an order about a week ago from Stephane which included one such free model, the first version of my Mobile Crane and Stephane was kind enough to send me pictures of the completed model along with a great testimonial of how it went. —————— Sorry for [...]

Buying files and kits without assembly guides

Opportunity Mars Rover

One minor issue that has kept me scratching my head since I started WoodMarvels.com is people buying kits and files but not getting the assembly guide along with it. Some of these models, I completely understand, an assembly guide for the Pterodactyl isn’t necessary I think for most adults as the process is very easy and the 3D animation shows the process as well. I had an order for my Mars Rover Opportunity (animation below) a little while back, the [...]

I’ve completed the update to 720p for the Home Gym, Light Table and Serving Table. I have released the DXF files for both tables and EPS for the serving table. Something new for the assembly videos starting now is the addition of model numbers at the bottom right hand corner around the end of the 3D assembly animations. The static images have also been updated to a higher resolution as well as a few additional tweeks. You can find them [...]

bank-castle

I’m happy to announce that this month, I’ve completed two custom projects, one for a CNC router manufacturing company and the other, a large multinational laser cutter manufacturer. I will post details of each in the coming month once they are made public but both projects were great fun and I look forward to releasing the plans on WoodMarvels.com. We are also expanding into new markets as well, more details once they are finished but it’s incredibly exciting! Videos Total [...]

Bus gets the DXF and HD treatment

Wooden bus

I always had two thoughts when I first produced the 3D assembly animation for the bus on WoodMarvels.com. First is that it was lacking in imagination and the second, this would look amazing in HD. Well, I’ve solved both problems at the same time (the model hasn’t changed) with the updated HD assembly animation of the bus. I’m willing to bet you don’t see many buses fly off ramps! The model is available, as always, at WoodMarvels.com under Category / [...]

loader1

About a week ago we released in association with David Newman, an amazing wooden Bobcat and today, we are releasing the accompanying loader! It’s big, very well built and will be loads of fun for anybody with an interest in big machinery or construction. It’s available right now at WoodMarvels.com under Category / Vehicles / Construction in CNC routing DXF or laser cutting EPS file formats, in addition to PDF plans and physical, on-demand laser cut kits. Lots of other [...]

bank-castle

I completed the conversion of three medieval relics at WooodMarvels.com to DXF format, they are both Mangonel Siege Weapons and Medieval Castle Bank. You can find them easily by going to Theme / Medieval / Relics, the models were not changed other than the new file format being made available. Medieval Castle Bank: 3D Assembly Animation Mangonel Siege Weapon: 3D Assembly Animation Mangonel Siege Weapon B: 3D Assembly Animation

Full Armor Gear Bull

I’ve completed the update to my Full Armor Gear Bull, the third in a series (Tank is coming-up next). I designed these while sitting next to a river one afternoon. These are among my first models released at WoodMarvels.com, hence the use of dowels. The 3D assembly animation has been updated to HD along with a little more personality around the end. I also released the files in DXF and EPS for the first time but otherwise, the model is [...]

bobcat1

WoodMarvels.com has a number of construction vehicles but a job site isn’t complete without a Bobcat! David Newman designed a wonderful Bobcat and it’s my pleasure to release it. This guy took north of two weeks to render (you can easily guess the part that took so long) but the project is amazing and I wanted to do something extra special for the assembly animation of the Bobcat. It’s available RIGHT NOW in laser cut EPS file format, DXF CNC [...]

Mayan Temple Bank: Updated (720p HD)

bank-mayantemple

I was able to sneak in a few quick renderings of the Mayan Temple Bank while I have some new products queued up and the results are the release of the updated Mayan Temple Bank. This product is among my oldest at WoodMarvels.com so it’s got quite a history. The design hasn’t changed, I just did an update to the animation, fixed a few things and the new resolutions makes everything look great! While I was at it, I also [...]

I did a guest post on David’s onelifenofear.com website about how I got to 500 000 video views and am now growing by over 50 000 a month. You can read it here: How to hit 500 000 Video Views! ————— (for posterity, I’ve included the article I wrote below) A few days ago, I finally hit my goal of 500 00 video views, this article will explain how I did it so you can too! Why make videos in [...]
